In the quiet neighborhood of Runda, Nairobi, life had always seemed calm and orderly. Families walked their dogs along tree-lined streets, children played under the shade of jacaranda trees, and neighbors exchanged greetings over fences. Among them, Mary Wanjiku had always kept to herself, preferring the peace of her home to idle gossip. That peace, however, was shattered when a new neighbor moved in next door—a man named Simon Njenga, whose charm masked a deep streak of greed.
It started with small things. Simon would borrow Mary’s gardening tools and never return them, or peek over her fence, pretending to admire her flowers while actually scouting her property. Mary initially brushed it off as harmless curiosity, but she began to notice subtle encroachments.
