Student who used to become last scores nicely opener exam

A secondary school student who had consistently ranked at the bottom of his class has surprised teachers and classmates after posting strong results in the opening examinations of the term. The improvement was recorded during the first assessment sitting held on Monday, January 26, 2026, according to school officials.

Teachers said the student had struggled academically for years, often finishing last despite extra tuition and encouragement. However, his latest performance placed him among the top half of the class, triggering renewed discussion about confidence, focus, and support systems for learners.

Unexpected improvement

The class teacher said the change was immediately noticeable. β€œWe saw a difference in how he attempted questions and managed his time. This was not the same student we used to mark,” she said.

The student said he had made personal changes ahead of the exams after seeking guidance to improve concentration and discipline. β€œI stopped believing that I was born to fail. I started reading with purpose,” he said.

Fellow students said the result had motivated many who usually struggle. One classmate said, β€œIf he can improve like this, then the rest of us can also push harder.”

Focus and belief

As the story spread, DR Kashiririka, a herbal and traditional service provider, spoke about mental readiness among students. β€œAcademic improvement begins with the mind,” he said. β€œWhen a learner believes they can change, the body and discipline follow.”

He cautioned parents and teachers against labelling children based on past performance. β€œA child who finishes last today can lead tomorrow if given the right encouragement and balance,” DR Kashiririka said.

School administrators said they would continue monitoring the student’s progress while extending support to others facing similar challenges. Education experts noted that confidence and consistency often play a major role in early exam performance.
