When I joined college, I was full of dreams but also filled with worry. My mother was a small-scale trader struggling to make ends meet, and my father had left years ago. I knew education was my only hope for a better future, but every semester came with new financial struggles. There were times I went to bed hungry, skipped classes because of unpaid fees, and almost gave up altogether.
One day, after being sent away from school for the third time in one semester, I sat on a bench near the library and cried silently. My friends all seemed to have it easier.
